Join the fight to stop teen Violence.
Hello, I’m Waylon, the founder of Voices For Non-Violence. My journey into this mission is deeply personal. As a teenager, I experienced the harsh reality of group violence firsthand. I was attacked by a group of teens at a fair, a place that should have been safe and joyful but, instead, turned into a place of fear due to inadequate security. I was fortunate to escape with no serious physical injuries, but the emotional scars were deep.
This experience ignited a profound realization in me: the cycle of violence needed to be addressed, and the voices of those affected needed to be heard. I knew firsthand how devastating such violence could be, and I felt a powerful call to transform my pain into a force for positive change.
At Voices For Non-Violence, we are driven by the belief that every teen deserves to grow up in a safe, supportive environment. We are committed to breaking the cycle of group violence by fostering understanding and empathy through education, open dialogue, and community engagement. Our mission is to create spaces where conflict is resolved non-violently and where every voice is valued and heard.
By sharing my story and working together, we aim to inspire a culture of respect and compassion, ensuring that no one has to endure the same pain that I did.
Public speaking engagements are pivotal in our mission to combat teen group violence, particularly when we emphasize teaching through personal experience. By sharing firsthand accounts of how group violence has impacted lives, we provide a raw and relatable perspective that statistics alone cannot convey. These stories humanize the issue, illustrating the emotional and psychological scars that violence leaves behind. Through this approach, we aim to connect with our audience on a deeper level, fostering empathy and understanding. When teens and community members hear directly from those who have lived through the trauma of group violence, it becomes clear that this issue is not just a distant problem but a real and pressing concern that requires collective action.
In addition to sharing personal stories, these engagements often involve interactive elements where participants can ask questions and engage in discussions. This format allows us to teach practical strategies for preventing and addressing group violence, informed by our own experiences. We provide concrete examples of effective conflict resolution techniques and highlight the importance of creating supportive environments. By combining personal narrative with actionable advice, we not only raise awareness but also empower individuals to take a stand against violence. Our goal is to turn the insights gained from these experiences into tangible steps that can prevent violence and build safer communities for all.
